Hagiga Wahid is a simple Juba Arabic phrase that translates ‘One Truth’, a peace-building information management technology project aimed at countering the spread of harmful rumors which contribute to tensions and conflict in Rhino Camp Refugee Settlement, Northern Uganda.

Soot Semee is a Juba Arabic Phrase that means the “Voice of compassion”. Soot Semee Project is a community-centred media project that aims at realizing positive behavior change, and build peace and social cohesion among South Sudanese Refugee Communities living in Northern Uganda.

Sexual and Reproductive Health
The project has trained women as community Educators in five locations, these women now help conduct Sexual and Reproductive Health Education classes for other women and workshops for groups in Ofua and Siripi Zones of Rhino Camp.

#VRforPeace
The project enables different conflict groups to meet, engage in dialogue, and provide some mutual understanding, and provide refugees with a unique VR storytelling experience that will result in a change of attitudes and behaviors and promote peace and reconciliation.

OUR COVID-19 RESPONSES
The Centre is supporting communities during this time, we have taken adaptive developments in our projects to respond to the pandemic and contribute in combating its spread within our communities. see quick highlights of our COVID-19 responses below.
Messaging Critical Information and Managing Misinformation
Refugee communities in Uganda have no access to information to reliable, accurate, and timely information; it is why we implement the Hagiga Wahid information service project. Having hundreds of subscribers on our SMS information services from different villages and parts of Rhino Camp Refugee Settlement, and when it is difficult to physically reach the community and broadcasted critical information, COVID19 prevention measures and encouraging the community to stay calm and always pay attention to only official guidelines
With false information spreading like wildfire and faster than the virus as the talk about the pandemic dominates in the community. We managing fears and misinformation: countering rumors and misinformation regarding the COVID19 by giving instant verification and are responding to questions with reliable information on what community members want to know about the pandemic
Reaching more Communities with information and building Resilience
From Posters to Podcast, we are using range of channels to reach more of our communities with information on how to stay safe and protect their families and loved ones against the COVID-19.
- In Northern Uganda, Omugo Camps we are helping communities have weekly programme content on Soot Semee Podcast, full of awareness messages and prevention advice based on WHO information. We are also working with the mental health service providers/local experts to help community members deal with the additional uncertainty and emotional stress caused by the COVID19 measures.
- In Yei – Central Equatoria State, South Sudan, we running CSAs and Radio updates on COVID-19 on daily basis with additional health measures on Radio and are using also posters translated into local languages to send the messages to all in the community. As we enhance community protection, we continue building community resiliencies in all that we do.
Distributing Soap, Face Mask and Sanitizers / Hygiene Materials
- Provided Face Mask soap and sanitizes to vulnerable community members and some specific water and other community handwashing points and help in developing local community measures to prevent risk COVID Spread.
