Community Development Centre (CDC) is Community Concern NNGO with roots in community media; Our mission is “to work for the welfare of Communities and poverty alleviation”. We respond to urgent community needs, provide empowerment and promote community social, environmental, cultural, and healthful values; establishing platforms for community development and advocating for needs of indigenous communities. CDC in partnership with the Sentinel Project under the Hagiga Wahid project is currently seeking to hire twelve (12) full-time positions. These positions are primarily focused on managing the daily operations of the Hagiga Wahid project in the following locations:

Please note: You must be a current resident within these regions or respective states to apply. Relocation costs will not be covered and non-resident applications will not be considered. Hagiga Wahid project will be jointly implemented by the Community Development Centre – Juba, and the Sentinel Project, successful candidates will be employed at CDC and will sign a tripartite agreement. Female applicants are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities will especially focus on local stakeholder relations, the operation of the misinformation management system, and the growth of Hagiga Wahid’s coverage area and subscriber base. While the occupant of this position will be primarily focused on their respective region of South Sudan, he or she may also participate in some aspects of expanding Hagiga Wahid into other parts of South Sudan, as well as supporting Hagiga Wahid in neighboring areas as necessary.

What you’ll do:

  • Primary responsibility for operating the Hagiga Wahid misinformation management system on a daily basis
  • Managing intake of reports via voice, SMS, web-based (e.g. social media), and human channels and input them into the WikiRumours management software
  • Investigating and verifying reports
  • Disseminating verified information and other important alerts to Hagiga Wahid subscribers
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders (e.g. government officials, community leaders, other NGOs)
  • Implementing a public information campaign to build engagement with the reporting system by members of the general public
  • Ongoing recruitment, training, and management of local project volunteers as needed
  • Notification of project volunteers and community leaders / influencers when intervention may be required
  • Monitoring of key metrics in order to measure the effectiveness of Hagiga Wahid
  • Supporting other project team members during field visits  including:
    –Assistance with logistical planning before and during visits
    –Coordinating meetings with stakeholders such as community members
    – Joining project team members during field activities
    – Acting as an interpreter for project team (fluency in English required; local languages are beneficial)
  • Ongoing recording of research results and lessons learned
  • Dissemination of project results (e.g. writing blog posts, situation reports, journal articles, attendance at conferences and stakeholder forums)
  • Other duties as assigned or deemed necessary

What you’ll need:

  • Demonstrated experience in doing community work, especially organising activities, building relationships with other organisations, and leading groups of volunteers
  • Knowledge of local communities, ethnic groups, religious groups, and cultural practices is an asset
  • Technologically literate and comfortable working closely with technical team members
  • Eagerness to learn new skills and knowledge both individually and as part of a team
  • High-quality written and verbal communication skills
  • Fluency in English is essential
  • Fluency in one or more local languages is an asset
  • Comfort working in a multilingual, culturally-diverse environment
  • Comfort and experience traveling and working in less-developed rural areas
  • Ability to work independently in a virtualenvironment together with geographically distant colleagues and sometimes with little instruction or direction

Your experience should include:

  • Bachelor’s degree, diploma, or other certification in conflict studies / management, international development, security studies, or another relevant field is a strong asset but not mandatory
  • Working knowledge of how technological tools can support human rights, human security, and peacebuilding work
